Now first of all I want to make it clear that I have not been guilty of this. I play by the rules. However Twitter has been going crazy over this topic. Lots of big names are talking about who misuses categories, who is going to stop doing it, who is going to continue. So lets clear this up. What I am talking about is some large YouTube partners who place their videos in say the Pets and Animals Category just so their video will be number 1 on that chart. Even if they don’t show any animals in their videos. Others do the same with Travel and Events, as well as Science and Technology. It is not fair to those who specialize in those categories to get bumped off the list by those who already get high views as it is. Now yes YouTube is a business I understand that, but YouTube started cracking down on the thumbnails a few weeks ago and now several of the big infringers have straightened up. Now lets put the pressure on to get people to chose the right category for their videos. Things such as comedy and education as well as News are grey areas but clearly if you put your videos in the Pets and Animals section it clearly should have pets and animals in there. Furthermore, if you see a video that is clearly trying to cheat the system don’t be afraid to call them out on it. What are your thoughts, video responses are set to automatic approval. What annoys me most about this, is it’s in the “Partner Termination Facts and Information” section in Partner Hub…and YouTube doesn’t appear to do anything about the worst repeat offenders. I don’t think bad of those doing it, but wonder why YouTube isn’t doing anything more to make them stop.

Well there is a grey area. For example I saw a video with edit cuts of a raving lunatic, the video is under the “pets & animals” category for comedy purposes… See… Imagine now the raving lunatic is like, NephilimFree, and the video gets #1, one could call it a “cheating” but the intent was not to cheat but to get lulz… Just an example.
Who was talking about it on Twitter? I didn’t see any that I follow doing it.

I’ve never been guilty myself, because I consider it extremely unethical at best. Of course, my vids don’t get any views, either. LOL
But I sure have seen a lot of major Partners gaming the system with it, AND getting away with it. I don’t think some of them will stop until YouTube pulls the plug on them, and that’s not gonna happen, because they bring in money, and YouTube is all about money.
I’ll take the pledge if I ever upload a video.

@HappyCabbie – Theoretically nothing is fair. But if I was making video’s, I’d rather try to give the best quality a video I can to a small audience than spout incoherent horse shit to a vast one. Like Lifeinatent for example.
How would using the wrong catagory help? I would think it would hurt.

@mrmyxlptlk it could but I also think people and blogs is a good fit as well. Also by putting it in people in blogs I place myself at a disadvantage. It is very hard to make the lists in that category. However you will notice at least half of my videos go in there
